Interview as a medical consultant

If you have been looking for a medical procedure in The US or Canada but eventually faced amazingly high prices or an endless waitlist, maybe it is time to take action by yourself and search for medical options outside your origin country. This recent interview with the President of Health Center Global can shed some light on what to expect for a transnational medical procedure in Mexico.

1. North America cannot access  bariatric surgery within North America due to high treatment costs, long wait times, and insurance system coverage. In your experience, how would medical tourism save this problem?

  • Mexico emerges as a practical solution to the challenges faced in the US healthcare system regarding bariatric surgery. It not only addresses the financial barriers but also offers efficient, high-quality medical care with reduced wait times.

2. What are important factors for North American patients to get bariatric surgery in other countries?

  • First and most importantly, there must be a proper legal frame around the medical procedures in the destination country to avoid fraud, misconception, and possible future problems. Now, we also need to consider factors like affordability, reduced wait times, and the quality of care, which makes Mexico a great destination for this particular procedure.

3.  Are there challenges associated specifically to bariatric surgery in medical tourism?

  • We could point out that undergoing bariatric surgery in a foreign country involves challenges such as language barriers, different healthcare standards, and post-operative care complexities, however, the importance of a medical tourism agency in this context cannot be overstated. We facilitate communication, ensure adherence to high healthcare standards, assist with logistical arrangements like travel and accommodation, and help navigate insurance complexities in order to make the patient’s experience the most comfortable possible.

4. Are there any other challenges you are facing other than the above?

  • Yes, in general, we can mention challenges like variable medical standards, language barriers, legal and ethical issues, post-operative care, and misinformation. Addressing these effectively requires stringent accreditation, bilingual services, clear legal frameworks, robust post-care protocols, and comprehensive patient education. Tackling these challenges is essential for ensuring patient safety and maintaining Mexico’s status as a top medical tourism destination.

5. How do you choose which hospitals/clinics to work with?

  • First, we look for institutions with the Mexican Council of Medical Tourism accreditations such as, which signifies adherence to high global healthcare standards. Secondly, consider the reputation and track record of the facilities, including success rates, patient testimonials, and professional recognition. Additionally, evaluate the qualifications and experience of the medical staff, focusing on their expertise in specific procedures. It’s also important to assess the quality of facilities and technology used.

6. What is needed for the medical tourism industry to grow?

  • Well, for starting, it’s crucial to focus on elements like achieving international accreditations, receiving government backing, and implementing effective marketing strategies. Additionally, the role of medical tourism agencies is vital, as they facilitate seamless patient experiences by coordinating care and logistics.

7. In your opinion, are there aspects of the medical tourism process that bring up ethical or legal dilemmas?

  • Yes, but to be fair, these are now seriously taken into account. We can mention, for example: care quality, informed consent, continuity of postoperative care, varying legal regulations, transparency issues, health equity, insurance and liability, cultural sensitivity, and data privacy. As I said before, these aspects now are regulated by the proper legal and regulatory frame.

8. What sets your organization apart and makes it so unique?

  • Beyond the fact that we are not just a “facilitator” but an integral agency that covers way much more than the simple medical and patient encounter, Health Center Global is the only agency qualified by American standards due to its human rights as a priority.
